In 2017, this event was hosted by Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune from 17th March to 20th March 2017.

A group of Final Year Civil Engineering students of Marathwada Institute of Technology, Aurangabad namely Vedant Karhade, Shraddha Vangujare, Prasanna Wadgoankar, Ganesh Gadekar and Amol Kamble participated the event. The title of project was “Urban River Restoration: Case Study of Kham River, Aurangabad”. The group completed this project work under guidance of Dr. Jagdeesh Godihal.

Urban Rivers are subjected to free sewer outfalls, encroachment on river basin, depletion of urban river ecosystem, etc. and hence, now a day, urban rivers instead of adding to beauty of cities are becoming unattended assets. To tackle this socio-economical and environmental problem, this project was undertaken for devising methodology and to implement on Kham River, Aurangabad on pilot basis. Monitoring of water quality, Ecological Monitoring, Flood Analysis and Improvements in Aesthetics & Recreational portions over 8 kms reach of the river, from Harsul Lake to Chavani Bridge is the major contribution of project. Multiple arch Bandharas in Chain and Green Bridges in Chain are proposed for restoration of the river.

It is matter of proud that the project group has won the First Prize in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Interior Designing, Transportation and Mining Group. The Group of Students and Guide Dr. Jagdeesh Godihal are congratulated by Prof. Munish Sharma, Director General, MIT, Dr. N. G. Patil, Principal, MIT and Prof. V. R.
