Head of Mechanical Engineering Department

The Mechanical Engineering Department started right at the inception of Marathwada Institute of Technology Aurangabad. Since its inception, the Mechanical Engineering Department is well known for the quality of teaching and the supporting environment provided to the students. The state-of-the-art laboratories, highly qualified faculties, experienced and dedicated faculty members in all streams of Mechanical Engineering make this Department a dynamic place to study.


The Department offers two Under Graduate (UG) Programs: B.Tech Mechanical (Regular Shift) with intake of 120 and B.Tech Mechanical (Second Shift) with intake of 60. The Department also offers Post Graduate (PG) Programs namely: M.Tech Manufacturing, M.Tech Heat Power and M.Tech Automation. M.Tech Automation is offered only in MIT among all affiliated institutions of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad. The Department also has a recognized Research Centre (Ph.D. Program) by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Aurangabad. The programs are not only imparting technical expertise to the students but also are intended to give a professional experience through industry sponsored projects, in-plant trainings, industry personnel expert lectures and industrial visits.


The students of the Department actively involved in various competitions of National and International repute like ROBOCON, SAE-BAJA, SAE-SUPRA and technical competitions in various institutions and also credited number of Winner titles to the Department. The Department has various student’s chapters like ASME, SAE and ISTE. The Department also conducts the guiding sessions and provides facility for competitive exams like, GATE, GRE, TOEFL and Engineering Services. Organizing number of short term training programs, workshop and seminars from time to time for faculties for sharing and updating the technical knowledge is a regular feature of the Department.


An interactive relationship is maintained between the students and staff which enable the students to develop a sound foundation in the stream in conducive environment. This is also reflected in our campus and off-campus placement. Our students also proceed to pursue their higher education in top Universities in globe like University of California Berkeley, Wayne State University, University of Wisconsin, etc. Students also have secured admissions for higher education in top most institutes like IITs, IIMs and NITs in India.

Objective of the Course


Help students to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and mechanical engineering.
Enable students to design, manufacture and analyze the performance of mechanical components, processes and systems to meet the desired needs.
Encourage the students to apply their knowledge using a realistic, practical and systematic approach to problem-solving and design.
Sensitize students to understand the impact of mechanical engineering solutions in a global, economical, environmental and social context.

Automobile Engineering


  • The Automobile Engineering lab practical’s are basically for final year students but it is also most useful for first year student for showing the elements of mechanical engineering such as clutches, I.C. Engines, shafts, gears and gear box etc. As per the Automobile Engineering syllabus for practical, we have near about all the cut section models and actual components of automobile vehicles. The total area of the lab is 92.8 Sq.m.

  • About Lab: The laboratory aims at imparting knowledge to UG and PG students about the latest developments in the field of CAD/CAM/CAE. The course includes awareness about design softwares like AUTOCAD 2012, UG-NX-6 and analysis softwares like Altair Hypermesh, ANSYS 14.0 and CAM software and implementation of the software knowledge in designing, analysing engineering problems and performing reverse engineering.

  • About Lab: The Heat Transfer Laboratory aims at providing hands-on experience to the students on the physical mechanisms which underlie the heat transfer modes. With the help of these equipments students learn.

  • About Lab: Thermal Engineering lab is basically used by First year students and second year Mechanical Engineering students. Most of the models required as per the syllabus of Elements of Mechanical Engineering, Thermodynamics I& II are available in the lab.The total area of the lab is 92 square meters.
